Mission and Vision
Vision: To be a place where new inventive strategies meet a passion for God.
Mission: To glorify God through our worship, time and talents.
To give others the divine opportunity to glorify God through their lives.
We accomplish this through several avenues:
1. Our worship Service
2. Our bible Studies
3. Sunday school
4. Outreach to our community through concerts, kids events, movie nights. and other family friendly events.
5. Serving our community through helping with PADS, visiting the sick, caring for those in need and visiting those in Jail. We also visit those who are shut in and cannot make the services. We also have a service for Pacific Garden Mission
6. Raching the Lisbon, Newark, Morris and surrounding areas with the love of Christ to those here and to the ends of the earth.
What We Believe
We believe in God, that He exists in 3 persons and yet are One. The three are God the father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe He created everything in six days creation. We believe in his Holy word. We believe in trusting God for everything.
The Bible is God’s Holy Word and is true (inerrant) in all its parts. It is our source of encouragement for all aspects of life.
Salvation: We believe that Adam sinned and therfore sin entered the world through him according to Romans 5. We believe that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). We believe we need to ask Jesus the one and only perfect sacrifice to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9). Then ask his spirit to enter our heart and make us a new person. God provided this through his Son Jesus. The Holy Spirit protects us, moves us, and leads us closer to the father. We also believe salvation is initiated by God.
The Church: We believe the church is God’s avenue for worship, fellowship, and growth, proclaiming the word through song, giving, preaching, bible study, and outreach. It is also a place where the far from God can find their way back to Him. We are all sinners in need of a Savior. Jesus is the only way to the Father. John 14:6 Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me.
Our Church was a part of the West Lisbon Lutheran Church. The church burned down in 1926. After that, the church started meeting in town on a temporary basis. Some people found they liked having the church in town. So some stayed at West Lisbon. In August of 1929, The in-town group of people purchased our building from the Methodist Church. It was then that our congregation was born. The church bought the building and immediately dug a basement in the church.
The building was raised and they dug it out using a horse and buggy. Since that time we have had 12 full time pastors and 1 interim pastor. Many times the church has shared pastors with Grace Lutheran Church in Morris. Neal Spencer was the interim pastor from 2011 to 2013. Larry Jacobsgaard is the current Pastor.
The Church has had many families common to the area such as Ortons, Hauges, Seversons, Morris, Hilts, Kjellesvik, Andersons, Hall, Osmond, Davidsons, and many others. These people have persevered through thick and thin. The thing that stands out is what wonderful and caring people have been apart of the great tradition of this church. We have been around for 85 years, and we’re looking forward to the great stories to be written about this church in the future.
